Resolve to Travel Better

Hey there! I’m Tara, the founder of Conscious Travel Collective. After years in the travel industry and loving the opportunity to connect travelers with the world, I was struggling. Part of what troubled me was the absence of a critical element, one that makes travel so special - which is genuine, reciprocal, authentic connection! Connection with places, through the people that live there. So, with much intention, I started Conscious Travel Collective to offer folks travel that connects. We design luxury experiences at a reasonable price, with sustainable, ethical travel practices leading the way. For more on our approach to private travel head over to our homepage. We are so happy to welcome you!

Remote work & quiet quitting might have meant more opportunity to travel for some folks in 2022, but we think the way in which we travel is overdue for a reimagining!! In fact, that is exactly what we are here to do!💫

We have a few easy to implement tools for travelers looking to up their travel game to be more mindful, and go deeper when visiting new places and meeting new people.

Take it slow

Stay in one place longer, settle in and get to know some locals!

Meet folks at local pubs, farmers markets or fitness classes.

You'll be able to have a more authentic connection with the place you are visiting by taking things more slowly, and not focusing on just the typical attractions.

Avoid any extra air travel

Like the tip above, this ties into to slowing down the pace of travel. It's tempting to want to visit multiple faraway places in one trip but centering your travel around one place with local day trips helps you have a more cohesive experience.

Take public transit

When taking those nearby trips, and when getting around town, try local options like trains, buses, ferries, or even bikes! It'll be way more interesting, economical and eco-friendly!

As you may have noticed, we tend to think the locals know a thing about how to live in their city, so we try to do as they do as much as possible!

Consider the impact of your decisions

Are your choices supporting the local economy?

If making a positive economic impact is important to you, skip that hotel or rental property that is owned by investors who don't live in the community and opt for a locally owned boutique hotel or homestay.

A lot of tourism operators are struggling with employment right now, by selecting a small, locally option you are likely to have a far better experience as well!

Select the right season to travel

Off season or should season travel means less crowds, less hassle, better deals, and helps the destination manage balancing local needs with that of visitors - everyone wins!

Check out our travel industry lingo blog & why "shoulder season" travel is the sweet spot for when to plan your trip!

Pack light

Minimize your luggage to minimize your stress!

It's easier to get around, more economical (bye bag fees!) & eco-friendly!

Embrace the new

Leave your comfort zone at the gate! We could write an entire blog on why this is key to having taking full advantage of your opportunity as a traveler!

This doesn't mean ignore your intuition, if something feels off, listen to your internal guidance. if need a quick getaway we will pop into a hotel or restaurant and ask the concierge or hostess to order a car from a reputable service to bring us home.

But with that in mind, travel is an opportunity to experience something totally different & unfamiliar.

Meet the moment!

Don't wait

If you have travel dreams, don't wait on anyone else to make them a reality!

You can travel solo (we speak from experience!) Or try joining a group to travel with. Strangers become friends in no time when you are sharing amazing experiences
